Driffield Over 55’s v North LX

Fiona Tuplin9 Nov - 21:26

The start of Driffield Masters Over 55’s journey in the National Cup

The start of the journey in the 2025/26 season for the Over 55’s began on Sunday. LX North were the opposition.
With 16 in the squad Wendy Foster stepped in and took the lead with the subbing which she did impeccably (thank you Wendy).
Driffield began strongly and within 2 minutes Driffield took the lead through Claire Turner. Driffield moved the ball around well, not giving LX North much of a chance to get into a rhythm. 10 mins later Driffield were pushing hard with good attacking moves, after a bit of a mela in the D, Fiona Tuplin flicked the ball up, just over the keepers head to score goal no. 3. Half time came and a few minutes to recompose. Once back into the game it wasn’t long before a short corner was given and this time Fiona Tuplin had a great strike, hitting the back boards hard for goal no. 3. North LX put the pressure on, giving the defenders Fiona Green, Henri Williams, Mags Purnell, Helen Holsworth, Sue Morgan and Jan Anderson a job to do, but it came to no avail.
The midfield and forwards worked well together, passing the ball around nicely which gave the team the last goal. Lisa Cooper who had made some fantastic runs on the left, picked the ball up on the right and drove into the D, putting a square ball across to Mieke Davison who slotted the ball home. The game finished with a first win for Driffield 4-0 who are hopefully on the road back to the Olympic Stadium in 2026. Fingers crossed ?.
