Onwards to the Tier 3 Competition and Winning the Plate.

A mixture of U16 and U18 girls made the journey to Harrogate on Sunday to play the second round game of the EH National Cup.
The girls were apprehensive about the game coming up against a big club like Harrogate but coach Fiona Tuplin reassured them all they were totally up to the task.
In the first half Driffield were in total command of the situation, working really hard, making the ball do the work and moving it round the pitch at speed opening up space with abundance. When Harrogate did get possession Driffield were soon closing them down and regaining the ball. They were very disciplined in their defensive press and the whole team moved up as a unit with great conviction blocking out any chance of an attack from Harrogate. Close to the end of the first half the ball was taken down the middle at pace by Kiera Dinsdale-Young and passed to the waiting forward Harriet Dobson who managed to get it past a defender and the GK to end the first half on a high with a 1-0 advantage.
Harrogate came out hard in the second half proving they were no push over and started to open up space for themselves and passing the ball off at a good pace, unfortunately this lead to a short corner and during this the umpire deemed that a penalty flick should follow saying a body stopped it on the line.
The flick was taken very well and although Sibelle Baza GK dived to the right side she couldn’t quite get it as it was so accurate, 1-1.
Feeling slightly deflated my this decision Driffield started to struggle a little.
The game was opening up a lot more with both sides starting to feel tired, Driffield had some good breaks but just couldn’t capitalise on them. Very near the end Harrogate were give a short corner and they got it in the back of the net. This was a real shame as a drew would of been a fair ending to the game which would of been decided on flicks. It wasn’t to be though and the game ended 2-1.
The Driffield girls did not let themselves down in the slightest the coach was very proud of her players and how they conducted themselves, what a future the ladies have at Driffield Hockey Club with these girls all been a part of it.
