Back on form, Driffield Ladies 3rd travelled again across to Leeds on Saturday to face Leeds University 6th.
The University Teams are always unpredictable on home turf, so the plan was to mark the opposition tightly until we could identify their key players.
Six minutes into the game and Maya Brown received a great slip pass from Julie Pease which she deflected past the GK.
Nerves had settled and Driffield dominated the play. Mid-field; Soanes, Lucy Welburn and Sophia Bryan worked together to intercept any forward passes from the opposition and distribute the ball wide across to the Wing-backs Ella Dean and Jenny Welburn.
Julie scored her first of the game from a strong pass off the base line from Bryan who had run from the 50m line with the ball.

Driffield's attacking play was relentless. Lilli Borman won us a penalty corner but despite a scramble on the goal line the Uni girls were able to clear the ball.

Leeds had some quick breaks down the right wing and a couple of times slipped through our solid full-backs. GK Debs Nelson; always alert, batted them away.
Our 3rd was deflected into the goal by Pease. Lilli Borman did the work, skilfully running around the Leeds defence and striking the ball at the top of the “D”.

Maya Browns hard work and shots at goal finally paid off with a high deflection into the back of the goal and then another fantastic reverse stick shot tight into the corner of the goal. Half time and Driffield were leading 5:0

Second half Driffield maintained their formation. Clean, accurate passing and tight pressing on free –hits, prevented Leeds from ever getting back into the game.

Sophia’s stamina and speed up the right wing paid off and 10 minutes later she scored from the top of the “D”. Mayas perfect positioning on post deflected a high shot on goal past the Uni Keeper and Soanes scored the eight goal of the match. Driffield Ladies never let up and Pease reached her hat-trick of the game.

Lilli Borman scored the magic number 10 with an independant run from the half way line, dodging through the Leeds defence and slapping it past the GK.

Another resounding win and well earned 3 points .Next Saturday we have a home match .v. Tadcaster.
