Fair draw at Sheffield.

Match Report by Amy Moore

With a last-minute shopping trip for socks Driffield Ladies 2s made their way to a windy Sheffield. With a previous 0-0 draw hopes were high that we could take it one step further and bag ourselves a win.
Driffield came out strong wearing our new red colours, we were pumped and ready to go. Possession was high for Driffield in the first half with some great passing through midfield, Burgess, Sellar and Tuplin made some great triangles moving up the pitch. Great runs from both Blythe and Lee led to some early possession in Sheffield's D. A couple of short corners later and unfortunately the score still stood at 0-0.
A lucky break from Sheffield then saw them make it down to our defensive end where Morgan was ready with some solid tackles. A Driffield hit out led to great passing round the back between Banister and Smith with a cracking ball sent up the right side to Lee who drove the ball into the D to secure another short corner. Putting what we learnt in training to use Edmond and Tuplin went for an in out but with some nice saves from the Sheffield keeper we were unable to secure a goal. Another lucky break from Sheffield meant they got a few shots off at Baz who saved them with ease and an especially cracking save full stretch with her left leg.
Fresh legs arrived as Burkinshaw made some lovely runs through the midfield and drove the ball up the right side of the pitch. Strong defence from Sheffield made it difficult to get through and the half time score stood at 0-0.
Sheffield came back fighting in the second half, but Driffield kept calm on the ball and retained their press. Great pressure from the whole team with a strong press against Sheffield hit outs - Sellar communicated well and ensured that the Sheffield fullback didn't stand a chance at getting the ball through.
Great work between Edmonds and Riby on the left side meant the ball was once again in the Sheffield D. A break in the press and a strong hit from Sheffield left Driffield tracking back to defend. An unfortunate stick to the hand meant that Riby was out for the rest of the game.
A few strong passes later and Sheffield received a short corner, with the score still at 0-0 Sheffield decided to change it up and bank on their big, defensive hitter. Unfortunately for them the Driffield defence stood strong as Moore ran ball and stopped the strike.
A good strong game from Driffield Ladies 2s.
