Bright and early, we set off for Horncastle, excited but focused for our match. From the first whistle, L. Johnstone and P. Burgess made strong attacking runs, driving forwards with determination. Meanwhile, K. Lee kept troubling Horncastle’s players, forcing them to rush their passes and make mistakes. At the back, H. Percival, E. Calder and H. Williams worked tirelessly to keep the ball out of our D. Despite their effort, Horncastle broke through and scored, leaving us 1-0 down at half-time.

After a much-needed team talk from Captain Smith, and thanks to the 1kg bag of sweets kindly provided by H. Gillingham, we returned for the second half with fresh energy.

In the midfield, P. Goodlass, K. Gaskin, H. Gillingham and S. Teasdale communicated brilliantly, moving the ball and helping us to regain control. With our press working well Horncastle began to panic when our pressure increased. However despite our efforts, Horncastle were awarded with a short corner ,which then turned into a penalty flick. S. Burton stepped up to her line and was like a wall, saving the penalty flick superbly.
As the match continued, C. Smith and S. Robinson defended with real bravery, making vital tackles and clearing the ball away from danger. However, Horncastle scored twice more to stretch their lead. Even so, we did not give up. In the final minute, after Horncastle gave away a short corner for a foot in the D, we took our last chance. L. Johnstone pushed the ball out to S. Robinson, who swept it across to the right post for K. Lee to deflect in. Ending the match at 3-1 to Horncastle.
