Ladies 2s had a determined start to the season - with a new formation and some new legs.

Straight into the first half Driffield secured an early goal with a belter of a ball from Amy Moore through to Polly Burgess who perfectly placed the ball in the net. We reset strong after an attack from Grimsby with the back line Charlotte Smith, Rose Backhouse and Henri Williams putting in a solid shift to counter the Grimsby attacks. However, Grimsby couldn’t secure anything useful and Driffield received a second goal from a short corner. Leaving the score at half time 2-0.

Feeling refreshed and a great team talk from our coach Steve Gate we were ready to go for round 2!

Grimsby came back fighting into the second half with a quick goal after the restart whistle. Determined not to relive the previous years the midfield of Sophia Bryan, Phoebe Goodlass and Sarah Teasdale set up some lovely passes through to the forward line for Lauren Johnstone to secure the third Driffield goal of the match. With Grimsby on the counter attack Shanie Burton made an insane back to back save keeping Driffield in the game and Grimsby feeling lost for time. Pushing through the midfield line, Kat Gaskin And Steph Robinson smashed the balls through again for another goal from Driffield. With 5 minutes, left player of the match Katie Lee made multiple full pitch runs to bring the ball up again for yet another goal from Lauren Johnstone! An unfortunate last minute stick tackle meant Grimsby secured a short corner and a last minute goal to end the game 5-2 to Driffield!
