Hi Henri, here is the match report
On an early Saturday morning, Driffield made their way down to Skegness by mini bus- with an additional sideline support from our bus driver, Andy. The team were eager to face Alford, and from the outset, Driffield dominated possession. Midfielders Hattie Gillingham, Amy Moore and Sarah Teasdale showcased their skills with impressive dribbles, setting the tone for the match. The breakthrough came when Phoebe Goodlass found herself in the perfect position at the penalty spot, striking the ball firmly into the back of the goal, giving Driffield a 1-0 lead.
However, Alford responded with determination. The defensive unit, comprising Kirsty Edmond, Meg Sellar, Lucy Welburn, and Charlotte Smith, who worked tirelessly to fend off Alford’s advances. Despite their efforts, Alford managed to equalise, making the score 1-1 as the half-time whistle blew. A motivational team talk from manager Henri, coupled with Kirsty’s Tesco finest oranges, revitalised the players for the second half.
Driffield sought to regain the lead, and forwards Lauren Johnstone and Katie Lee made significant contributions. It was Katie Lee who found the back of the goal, putting Driffield ahead 2-1. Alford, now under pressure, fought back fiercely. Goalkeeper Shanie Burton made several remarkable saves, but Alford equalised again, bringing the score to 2-2.
With ten minutes remaining, Driffield pressed for another goal. A brilliant pass from Kirsty to Polly Burgess allowed Polly to weave through defenders and hit the ball into the back of the net, making it 3-2. As Driffield aimed to maintain their lead, Alford launched a final offensive and equalised once more in the last four minutes. The match concluded in a thrilling 3-3 draw.
