Driffield travelled away to face Louth in what proved to be a competitive and closely contested match.
Driffield started strongly, pressing high and intercepting play early through excellent teamwork from Moore, Bryan and Teesdale, who linked up well to move the ball swiftly up the pitch to the forwards. A number of early chances were created, with Burgess, Johnstone and Gillingham making great runs and firing several shots at goal, but despite the promising build-up play, none were converted into early goals.
Louth responded with attacking pressure of their own, but the Driffield defence stood firm. Sellars, Welburn, Edmond, Moore and Goodlass worked tirelessly at the back to break down Louth’s advances and clear the danger. Their efforts paid off when the ball was released cleanly up the wing, finding Lee, who drove determinedly into the D before smashing the ball home to give Driffield a well-deserved 1–0 lead.
Louth pushed hard to find an equaliser before half time, earning several short corners, but goalkeeper Burton pulled off a series of excellent saves to keep Driffield ahead at the break.
The second half saw more composed and attractive play from Driffield, who continued to link up well across the pitch and create further scoring opportunities. However, despite their efforts, the finishing touch remained elusive.
Louth continued to threaten on the counter and were eventually awarded another short corner. This time, Driffield were unable to keep it out, and Louth levelled the score at 1–1.
In the closing stages, Driffield pressed hard for a winning goal, maintaining pressure and composure, but the final whistle blew with the scoreline unchanged.
