This Saturday saw Driffield Ladies second team travel to Doncaster for their second game of the season.
Manager Henri Williams started the day by delivering a motivational and tactical team talk getting the ladies ready for action.
Driffield started with the first push back
and began with determination and discipline from the start.
There was some lovely movement across the back through the defence with Kirsty Edmond, Charlotte Smith, Megan Sellar and Lucy Welburn switching the ball across the pitch and down the line where the forwards were waiting.
The forwards Polly Burgess, Lauren Johnstone , Hatti Gillingham and Katie Lee never gave up driving the ball throughout the game into the D and securing a number of short corners. Two of these were converted with a brilliant one-two between Amy Moore and Polly Burgess, however one of these was unfortunately disallowed. This did not deter Driffield as they battled to increase their lead.
Doncaster tried to score and had a few short corners but the brilliant work of the defence and goalkeeper Shanie Burton kept them out.
Phoebe Goodlass and Bella Jackson made some lovely runs up the pitch and Amy Moore the main pivatol player never stopped in her determination to get the ball and pass it on.
The hardwork and determination of the team eventually paid off near the end of the second half with a lovely pass from Polly Burgess onto Lauren Johnstone who took on a one on one with the keeper, she managed to keep her cool and drive it past and on into the goal.
A fantastic second game of the season with great determination and teamwork shown. Brilliant play from everyone involved.
Congratulations go to Lauren Johnstone for Player of the match and Hatti Gillingham for team donkey.
A big thank you to Doncaster for a great game of hockey and providing the teas, to the umpires, to our coaches, our manager and lastly the drivers.
