On a sunny but cold morning, Driffield ladies 2s travelled the trek to Chesterfield. Arriving with plenty of time Driffield were prepared for a storming battle. From the off Driffield put their dominance in place, with lots of nice play using the width and showing off skills, 12 minutes in Riby belted it onto a green foot in the d, short corner given to us, Collinge injected to Captain Tuppers who slipped it right to Williams and then back to Tuppers in the middle accompanied with a bit of competition from the keeper and opposition defender, the ball was scooped into the goal. Despite being 1-0 up Driffield now had competition with the umpires.

With some lovely play round the back from Sellar, Smith, Drewery, Williams and Welburn Driffield manage to maintain their play. Some quality saves from Burton alongside the strong defence managed to hold Chesterfield back until they unfortunately slipped the ball into the back on the net. Driffield wanted to prove to Chesterfield that they weren’t going for a draw. Making a comeback, with powerful balls from Moore to the receivers at the top end Pergees, Riby and Atkinson for them to cause chaos resulting in our goal number 2 from Pergees. However Chesterfield managed to ‘bounce back’ with the umpires on their side giving everything possible to be awarded to them making it 2-2. Things were getting heated as Driffield felt it was unfair, however Captain Tuppers demonstrated this as she got a yellow card, believe it or not her first in all the years of action! Regardless Driffield wanted to play their game. Working as a unit we shifted the ball to the destined end, calamity struck as Moore and Williams put the green’s captain on the bench soon after Riby scored as she tucked the ball neatly into the back of the goal. With a bit of biasedness chesterfield scored 2 more goals within a few minutes before the final whistle blew to make the end score 4-3. Unlucky game but well played girls . Girlie of the game Charlotte Smith.
