On an early Saturday morning, the second team traveled to Sheffield knowing that a tough game was on the horizon. With Sheffields pushback, Driffield started strong pushing forward and pressurising the Sheffield defence. On the counter attack, Sheffield did some great dribbling, however, this was stopped by our defence consisting of, Williams, Smith, Seller, Edmonds and Atkinson. Some fantastic hit outs from the full backs allowed the midfield - Maltas and Drewery - to efficiently distribute the ball to the forwards. Despite our best attempts to score, the goalie and their strong defence was not letting the ball in. With the back and forth play, Sheffield suddenly broke away and smacked the ball towards the goal. Tuplin, made some great saves, sliding on the ground, but unfortunately the ball went over the line. Driffield came back strong, with some great runs made from our forwards, Burgess, Riby, Thompson and Pease. Riby, suddenly gets the ball and tactically places it onto a Sheffield foot, resulting in a short corner. With numerous strategies put in place, Driffield could not get it into the goal, Sheffield broke again several times, resulting in a score of 6-0. Well played everyone a tough match, but we can get them next week on our home turf.
congratulations to fiona for getting both girlie and donkey of the game. Making some great saves today, but please don’t turn up again to training looking like Simon Cowell.
