Electric Emily

The second game of the season saw Driffield 2nds travel away to play Northallerton 1sts.

After a well thought out team discussion and a positive talk from the captain Fiona we went on the pitch with that in mind. However, after a quick goal from the opposition in the first two minutes Driffield had to step up and so we did and after a promising set of opportunities, with the whole team working together in driving the ball up into Northallertons half. As well as Kat's strong defensive performance and some great clears. it began to work in a favour leading to a rewarding opportunity of a short corner with Fiona and Henri working together scoring the first goal using the in out technique but ultimately leading to Fiona scoring her first goal of the season.

With that in mind Driffield continued to pile on the pressure working well, with some strong passes from the back from Charlotte, Henri and Fiona we were straight back up into Northallerton defence. Emily C making some strong and fast runs, out running her defender, consistently working back and winning possession. Meg Sellar made a strong pass into the D, with the D crowded with both Driffield and Northallerton trying to get a shot on goal it finally fell to the stick of Polly, with a perfect deflection resulting in Driffield heading into half time, putting the scoring in their favour 1-2.

With the half time whistle, we head into the second half ready to continue to make an impact. Meg Sellar putting some strong passes to Meg Willis helping to keep the possession in Driffield’s half. Unfortunately Northallerton put some strong passes and some fast forwards with that unfortunately but impressive combination Driffield then conceded another goal. But we didn’t let that dampen our spirits. And once again we worked it up as a team. again we found ourselves in Northallerton’s D, Maya receiving a strong pass into the D and in a quick scramble the ball deflects off her stick and hits the top post unfortunately. Despite this the team worked amazingly to get the ball up to Emily receiving the ball from a strong pass from Polly, Emily showing us her speed once again took it straight into the D and smashing it into the corner of the goal. Taking the score to 3-3 unfortunately Northallerton came on the attack quite fast and scored two more goals before the full time whistle.

Although Northallerton were able to get the upper hand we will go into next week stronger.
