After a 4-0 victory last week to Bridlington at home. The ladies 2s headed to sunny Bridlington for the return match with aspirations of a similar result in mind. The game started quick paced with lots of possession from Driffield. The first goal came from Bridlington who had a very well placed ball through to their sent forward. However Driffield reacted extremely quickly and within three minutes, Katie Lee had scored Driffield‘s first goal getting the girls on the scoreboard. The game continued at a quick pace with Driffield having much of the possession. Unfortunately, an early sub was needed due to an injury to Edmond, who we wish a speedy recovery to. The forwards of Lee, Burgess, Johnstone and Bryan worked endlessly to keep up the pace of the ball. This resulted in a second goal from Burgess. Driffield’s defence held tight with solid passes from Backhouse, Smith, Calder, Welburn and Sellar. At halftime the score was 2-1 to Driffield but the girls knew that they needed to continue the press in the second half. After encouraging words from captain Henri and coach Steve, Driffield went back onto the pitch with a positive attitude. The goals then came in a flurry in the second half. Midfielders Bryan, Moore, Gillingham and Teasdale continue to move the ball with control, showing that we do listen in training. Bryan got the next goal after some beautiful passes. The final three goals were scored within 6 minutes of each other with Burgess getting two more goals to complete her hattrick and gain the crown of top goal scorer of the season and Gillingham getting on the scoreboard also. Goalkeeper Burton, continued to keep the goals out from the Bridlington team, keeping a cool calm head. When the whistle blew the final score was 6-1 to Driffield who were extremely pleased with their performance and ended the season on a real high. Girlie of the game went to Sarah Teasdale. Many thanks to our coaches throughout the season and also Henri and Steve for their continued support.
