Driffield Ladies 1’s were unbeaten so far in the league but were still sitting third in the league, and took on Halifax on Saturday who were mid table. From the start Driffield looked hungry, the first short corner awarded was rewarded with a crisp strike and thud from the backboard from Henri Williams which started the onslaught.

Shortly after Emma Speake made it two from a ridiculous angle on the right did of the D. A tangle in the circle with the keeper resulted in a disallowed goal for her soon after. Bry Sykes added a 3rd and Emma another to finish the half 4-0 up.

From the restart, with a half court press in operation to stop Halifax’s big hits breaking the Driffield line, Driffield upped their desire and turned on the team display. Despite Driffield spending 90% of the match in their half it was not without the defence which enabled the score to chock up. Eve, Ash, Henri and Holly mopped up any Halifax’s flurries and quickly turned defence into attack. And of course mention to our keeper Kat Young, who despite being frozen to the core, stepped up when needed to quash any attacks on goal.

Steph, Keira and Vicky in the midfield transferring the ball across and through the centre of the pitch was exemplary and the rest of the team had a field day. Emma claimed 4 and both Bry and Charlotte Braidwood-Smith nabbed a hat-trick. New member Hollie Stabler and newly returned striker Hannah Horsley did not disappoint and selfishly created chance after chance for the others and their running on and off the ball was a lesson for the spectators.

Final score was 11-0! and lifts them to the top of the table, we hope we can retain this spot for the Christmas break when we take on Rotherham next week 12:30 at home.
