Driffield welcomed Harrogate for a closely fought first game of the season. First fixture in the higher league, the game ended in a dramatic 2–2 draw.
The game was evenly matched from the start, with both sides working hard and creating chances. Driffield found the breakthrough through their 1st short corner, Charlotte Braidwood-Smith, getting her name on the scoresheet. Harrogate responded with a goal of their own, leaving the teams level at half-time.
The second half continued to be a real battle, with both teams determined to find a winner. Harrogate managed to edge ahead late on in the half but Driffield refused to give up.
With the clock running down and the final whistle about to go, Driffield won a short corner.
Captain Tuplin gave the instructions, the team kept their composure, worked the corner brilliantly and Charlotte, again, found the back of the net right on the whistle to snatch a fantastic equaliser and secure a 2–2 draw.
⭐ Girly of the Match – Emily Elliott
A brilliant defensive performance from Emily, who was absolutely unstoppable at the back. She battled for every ball, made crucial interventions and gave Harrogate very little to work with.
? Driff Donkey – Bella Byass No Shoes, Odd Socks
Overall, a fantastic team effort from Driffield. The never-say-die attitude paid off, with a dramatic short-corner goal on the final whistle earning a well-deserved point to start the season.
