Driffield Ladies 1’s v Brigg Ladies 1’s

Driffield Ladies 1s delivered a dazzling 10–0 win over Brigg 1s, in a match packed with goals, teamwork, and enough comedy moments to keep everyone on the sidelines thoroughly entertained.

Right from the start, Driffield looked sharp-ish, moving the ball with pace and purpose. Their early dominance quickly paid off, resulting in a confident 3–0 lead at half-time, thanks to well‑worked goals from Kate “lethal on the left post” Moore, Hannah “the secret mission” Horsley, and Charlotte “the maze runner” Braidwood-Smith.

Kate also treated everyone to a perfectly timed, “absolutely not legal” stick tackle. The umpire spotted it immediately, brandished the green card, and Kate accepted her two‑minute timeout with the grace of someone who knew the tackle wasn’t quite as illegal as the umpire might have thought.

The second half saw Driffield click into full scoring mode, adding seven more goals and keeping the pressure high. Superb link-up play through midfield kept the attacks flowing, while the defenders and goalkeeper produced brave blocks and calm clearances to protect a well-deserved clean sheet. Some of the goals were so slick they could have been accompanied by theme music, slow‑motion replays, and a Hollywood montage.

Hannah “the flat stick” Atkinson neatly slotted one past the keeper, quickly followed by another for Hannah Horsley with a slick deflection. A reverse-stick strike from Kate at the top of the D set up Bronwyn “the light saber” Walker‑Rouse to score what may well be goal of the season – wielding her stick like Skywalker to send the ball under the crossbar.

A second left‑post penalty corner routine allowed Kate to prove once again that her stick is capable of scoring just as well as it is… tackling. After plenty of hard work (and an impressive commitment to pressuring the opposition), including surviving a head‑butt), Bry “the relentless” Holtby got herself on the scoresheet too. Charlotte rounded things off with another mazy run through midfield and defence before rocketing her strike into the backboard for Driffield’s ninth.

And of course, no match report would be complete without mentioning Hannah’s mid-game expedition – part purposeful run, part scenic tour. Whether she was chasing the ball, chasing glory, or chasing her own wandering thoughts, we may never know… but with a hat‑trick in the bag and the honour of “Donkey of the Day,” the mission was clearly a huge success.

All in all, it was a fantastic team performance – full of energy, humour, and top-quality hockey. A perfect blend of skill and spirit as Driffield push toward the closing games of the season.
