Leed Uni 1’s v Driffield Ladies 1’s
After the miserable weather this week it was nice to see the sun come out for this match. The game definitely was going to be one of the toughest games that the ladies would have, so captain Tuplin needed to get her team up and ready to get their next 3 points.
The game started at a great pace, both teams not giving an inch. Driffield were first to score with lovely link play from Bronwyn Walker-Rouse, Fiona Tuplin and scorer Hannah Atkinson. Unfortunately the lead didn’t last long with the Uni girls coming straight back scoring with a great touch goal, 1-1. With the confidence from all the past wins that the Driffield girls have had, they didn’t panic. Ash Gate at the back got the ball moving around really well, opening up space. Emily Elliott received the ball on the right and smashed the ball through the eye of a needle up to Hannah Atkinson who with one touch put the ball in the back of the net, 2-1. Over the next 20 mins the game ebbed & flowed with a battle in middle field, the occasional shot at goal but nothing coming of it. Then a short corner was given to Driffield, captain Tuplin called Elliot up to strike the ball at the top of the D, she took it wonderfully to add another goal to Driffield’s tally, 3-1. Half time, a good team talk and back out again.
The intensity of the game held. Charlotte Braidwood-Smith received the ball just over the 23yd line and with fabulous skill took the ball past the defender, unfortunately for B-S, she off balanced the said defender who accidentally head butted her. This resulted in a cut nose & a short corner awarded to Driffield. B-S took the strike & wellied it at the P Spot, Bryony Holtby was there to slot the ball away, she got her revenge. Final score 4-2. Another win for the Ladies on their golden streak, 15 wins out of 15.
