On Saturday 1st November at Driffield Hockey Club, Driffield Ladies 1s claimed a well-earned 3–1 victory over local rivals Pocklington Ladies in a fiercely contested derby match.
Driffield took early control of the game, dominating possession and moving the ball with confidence. Their efforts were rewarded when Bronwyn Walker-Rouse opened the scoring with a well-executed goal from open play, following a series of precise passes that sliced through the Pocklington defence.
Shortly after, Charlotte Braidwood-Smith doubled the lead with a clinical finish from a penalty corner, executing Driffield’s infamous "In Out" routine to perfection and giving the team a strong advantage.
At half-time, the team were reminded to stay first to the ball, keep applying pressure on the opposition, and maintain their shape — a message that reinforced the tactical discipline seen in the first half.
In the second half, Bella Byass sealed the win with a superb reverse stick finish, a moment of individual brilliance that put the game beyond reach. Pocklington responded with a late goal, showing resilience and denying Driffield a clean sheet, but the hosts held firm to secure the win.
The match was a true reflection of the intensity and pride that comes with local rivalries, and Driffield’s performance highlighted their growing cohesion and attacking flair. A well-earned three points and bragging rights in the derby!
