On Saturday, Driffield L1’s made the trek through the pouring rain to Northumbria University. The ladies had faced Newcastle 1’s in their second game of the season so were ready for what they may offer.
Conditions brightened as they stepped out onto the pitch and the ladies set off to a strong start. Promising leads made by forwards and some excellent defence showed Newcastle that this was not going to be an easy ride.
A short corner against Driffield saw the home team capitalise on the opportunity, putting a goal on the board for Newcastle not long before half time.
Positivity reigned for the half time talk with Driffield knowing they stood a chance at the win.
They carried this into the second half with a textbook goal from Charlotte Braidwood-Smith leveling the game in the first 3 minutes of the half. Driffield continued to build play from the back through the midfield, eventually managing a cross from Rebecca Lindsay finished by Bry Holtby to take them into the lead with just 10 minutes to go.
Unfortunately, it was not meant to be as 2 short corners against Driffield saw Newcastle level, then surpass the ladies to beat them 3-2 in a crushing end to the game for Driffield.
Girly: Pip Lucas - fantastic play in the midfield
Donkey: Kat Young - directions and traffic lights not her strong point
