After the trek up to Newcastle discussing the previous strong performances, Driffield were ready to get on the pitch and dig deep.

Conditions were perfect for fast balls and fast runs. The Newcastle team came out strong with their back 3 moving the ball back and forth working Driffield forwards hard. With the ball working up to Driffield's keeper, Kat Young, the defence worked hard to work back and cover Newcastles fast and skilful attack, but a quick 1-2 sent the ball to the back of the goal. 1 goal down, and the voice of Driffield's Vik Scott was heard “let’s go Driffield, heads up”.

In previous weeks Driffield knew that they had time and the starting 20mins would allow them to figure out Newcastles movement and methods.

Driffield, reset, took a breath and went again.

Driffield’s Charlotte Braidwood-Smith did some beautiful skills in the centre of the pitch and worked it out to the wings, but a quick interception from Newcastle had them working their way back to Kat Young, this time, sticks, feet and bodies where blended and the ball slipped past a second time.

Again, “let’s go Driffield, more energy”

The half time whistle blew and it was time to communicate and focus. With support from Chris and Michelle, Driffield where reassured going into the second half.

Newcastle still strong and moving quickly, made their way to the Driffield defence and scored another. 3-0.

Driffield, now becoming frustrated, dug deep to push forward and get up to Newcastles defence. Amber Scott showed some beautiful movement, skill and determination on the right and worked up to the D where she won Driffield a short corner.

Amber passed to the top of the D, where Charlotte was ready to provide the ball needed for Bry to deflect the goal past Newcastle’s keeper without a chance to use the necessary footwork to stop it. 3-1.

Spirits where relit. The Driffield supporters where ecstatic. Both teams now had the energy to play at a high intensity and fight for the win.

Back and forth the ball went between the teams, until Newcastle broke through, deflected the ball into the back of the net for a forth goal. Again frustration set in for Driffield and the moral was lowered.

Driffield’s players switched on, marked strongly and the pitch became louder with communication. More passion showed in the team as passes became more successful and the ball began to do the work, from Vikki Bannister, Lucy Russell, Holly Snaith, and Kate Morgan. Again, Charlotte provided a beautiful supported pass to Kate Morgan in the middle, then to Pip, and into the circle where another short was awarded.

This time, the ball was outed by Kate Morgan, to Charlotte at the top of the where it bounced of the stick but provided her with space to provide a strong slap, that whizzed past the keeper and into the back of the goal. Another goal provided the team with more belief in their capabilities.

The team fought hard but unfortunately the timer ran out as Driffield had finally found their fire. The team where again proud of their performance, similar to the previous weeks and as they continue their season, they will fight every second to ensure their opponents are always on edge.
