Driffield began with a solid pre-match talk from Steve Gate, creating the mindset and attitude before getting set up. Reflecting on their previous Leeds away fixture, Driffield expected Leeds to come out strong and aggressive - some would say feisty. With a strong start, Driffield moved the ball and set the precedence - communication and teamwork would be key.

Leeds weathered everything that was thrown at them, left, right and centre. Yet Driffield carried on coming … attack after attack was repelled until a short corner was finally won. 3 feet were found and the short corners kept coming. Ash Gate stood at the top and launched the ball forward - the keeper though had other ideas and kicked the ball upwards, Bryony ducked and twisted! Despite the screams of dangerous play, advantage was played and the ball was casually slotted into the goal by Ash Gate with her first goal of the season!

Leeds however had an answer - attacking forcefully but our defence held strong. Alas though, eventually though a fast period of play led to a sharp movement from Leeds and an unfortunate own goal was scored against Driffield.

Scrappy play resumed, but this is where Charlotte BS came into her own - controlling the game and anchoring the Driffield response. Eventually, one of the many movements forwards was successful - a beautiful passage of passing play beginning at the back with Kate Moore, through the midfield, found “Irish” at the top of the D - a calm reverse found the back of the net and half time was blown at 2-1.

Driffield in the ascendency, the second half started with a bang on both sides - back and forward the ball came. The fight was had on both sides, but both held strong. The second half had lots of action, and a green card for backchat (Leeds) did not break the stalemate.

The final whistle blew and Driffield celebrated a well earned victory. Joint girlie of the game - Sibelle (outstanding saves) and skipper Charlotte Braidwood-Smith. Donkey of the game - Gemma, who could (perhaps) still be trying to find her car in the car park!
