The 8th of October saw Driffield Ladies 1s against Sheffield Hallam 2s for a 2:30 push back at home.

The first goal of many came from Vikki Banister, with a powerful strike into the corner, straight through Sheffield’s defence after a short corner was won by Driffield’s front line.

Driffield continued to stretch the Sheffield’s players by swiftly moving the ball through the Driffield back line consisting of Ash Gate, Kate Moore, Vikki Banister, Holly Snaith and Emily Brightling. This allowed the ball to be worked up the pitch and a chance to gain another goal. The second goal was a ball across the keeper to Rebecca Lindsay, who tenaciously fought to get the ball in the net. This lead to Driffield being 2- 0 up, good but not enough for the Ladies 1s.

Sheffield finally managed to gain a goal after a short corner was given against Driffield. Kat young had cleared the ball but unfortunately Sheffield Hallam were determined, resulting in the score standing at 2-1 to driffield as the half time whistle was blown.

After a team talk with excellent points made by the Captain, Charlotte Braidwood-Smith and Steve Gate, Driffield were raring to go.

The ball was effortlessly passed up the pitch by Driffield’s midfield, Francesca Marsh, Gemma Tuplin, Vicky Scott and
Keira Dinsdale-Young. Leading to another short corner that Driffield scored from with a strike from Charlotte Braidwood-Smith to an awaiting Keira Dinsdale-Young on the right post.

With the pressure on Sheffield Hallam increasing, they looked to pass it round the back. However due to the impenetrable press by the forwards Bry Sykes, Charlotte Braidwood-Smith, Emma Speake and Rebecca Lindsay, the ball went straight to Frankie Marsh. With an unstoppable force the ball went soaring into the top of the net, over the head of Sheffield Hallam’s goalie.

With the score now being 4-1, Driffield took the opportunity to play their own game. A ball passed from Emma Speake led to Bry Sykes having a one-on-one with the goalie. The ball was cleared but not for long as Charlotte Braidwood-Smith swooped in and smacked the ball into the goal.

The end result was a great 5-1 win for Driffield Ladies 1s.
