Ladies 1s started their season this week in a new league, following their promotion last year.

The ladies travelled to Leeds to play against the Leeds ladies 2s. From the start Driffield battled for the ball, pressing and tackling high up the pitch with many attempts on goal. Driffield effectively worked the ball up the pitch and with a ball from the corner to the top D from Emma Speake to Keira Dinsdale-Young, she fired a ball into Katie Lee who was perfectly placed on the left post to score the opening goal. The Driffield defence of Holly Snaith, Vicky Bannister, Ash Gate, Emily Brightling, Kate Moore remained strong throughout, making tackles and intercepting Leeds play through the first and second half. They fed many balls to the midfield of Charlotte Braidwood-Smith, Amy Moore and Keira Dinsdale-Young who worked tirelessly up and down the pitch, getting the ball up to the forwards; Bryony Holtby, Millie Riby, Katie Lee and Emma Speake, who had a number of near misses.
Unfortunately, Leeds managed to sneak a last minute goal in the last 5 mins leaving the score at 1-1. Altogether, a strong performance from the ladies, who will play Wakefield 2 at home next week.
