On a cold, miserable afternoon at home, Driffield Women’s 1st delivered a performance that warmed the spirits of everyone watching. Dominating from the very first whistle, Driffield controlled possession throughout and showcased some outstanding link-up play, keeping the game simple, structured, and firmly in their grip.
The breakthrough came early in the first half when Charlotte opened the scoring with a superbly disguised hit into the bottom corner, completely wrong-footing the Brigg goalkeeper. From there, Driffield gathered momentum. Goals followed from Hannah Horsley, Kate Morgan, and Hannah Atkinson, taking the home side into the half-time break with a commanding 4–0 lead.
The second half began in the same fashion, with Driffield immediately applying pressure. Hannah Atkinson struck first after the restart, capitalising on continued attacking dominance. Hannah Horsley then added two more to her tally, securing a well-deserved hat-trick and stretching the lead even further.
As the game drew to a close, Bella Byass put the perfect finishing touch on the performance, firing a beautiful strike into the back of the net to make it 8–0.
Defensively, Driffield were equally impressive. Their strong structure and disciplined back line meant Brigg rarely found a way through.
Despite the grim weather, Driffield Women’s 1st produced a sparkling team performance—clinical in attack, composed in possession, and resolute in defence. A brilliant all-round display and a thoroughly deserved victory.
Very well deserved, girlie of the game was a draw between Hannah A and Hannah H.
