A confident and composed Driffield side took to the pitch knowing history was within reach—and captain Tuplin’s pre-match message set the tone: could this be a season without defeat?
They wasted no time in answering that question.
Driffield started brightly, moving the ball with intent, and it was Bry Holtby who opened the scoring early with a powerful strike from the top of the D. The early breakthrough settled any nerves, but Leeds—chasing second place and promotion—responded with determination, equalising through a well-executed short corner routine.
Unshaken, Driffield began to assert control. The midfield quartet of Amber, Charlotte, Fi and Bron worked tirelessly to dominate possession and tempo. Their efforts paid off as Driffield restored and then extended their lead before the break.
Two superb deflections—first from Hannah Horsley, then a second from Holtby—gave the hosts a commanding 3–1 lead at half-time.
After the restart, Driffield raised their level again. Slick distribution from the defensive unit—Ash, Emily, Vicky, Drew and Kate—fed seamlessly into attack, where the forward line continued to stretch the Leeds defence.
It was Holtby once more who capitalised, completing a clinical hat-trick to make it 4–1.
But Leeds refused to fold. In a brief but tense spell, they struck twice in quick succession, reducing the deficit to 4–3 and threatening to spoil the celebrations.
Any doubts, however, were short-lived.
Driffield regrouped, with the midfield once again driving play forward. Sustained pressure earned a series of short corners, and the champions-elect made them count with a Hannah Horsley right post deflection at full stretch, adding two further goals to put the result beyond doubt and cap a dominant 6–3 victory.
Driffield’s title-winning season has been built on consistency, teamwork, and attacking firepower. Signing off with a six-goal performance against a promotion-chasing Leeds side perfectly encapsulated their campaign: relentless, clinical, and deserving champions.
With over a century of goals scored and an unbeaten record intact, this is a season that will be remembered for a long time!
Donkey’s for the game was both Scott’s.
Girlie-the hat trick girl Bry Holtby.
Lastly massive ‘thank you’ to Deano and Emily at Spread Eagle for the teas.
