This was the ladies penultimate game this weekend and they needed the win to take off the pressure of the final game next week.
The last time the ladies played Halifax they won 3-0 but captain Tuplin did not want her team to be complacent!
The game flowed well with the umpires playing good advantage from the off.
The pace of the ball was good and Driffield had the most possession in the first half but the Halifax defenders worked really well together and blocked out a lot of shots on goal.
The ladies played very well down the right hand side of the pitch, creating many chances. Emily Collinge - our own little Donkey - had a great game working really hard, getting some great crosses in. Millie Riby won the ball and put a beautiful ball across the D but alas no one was on the post. Tuplin flicked the ball getting it past the keeper but a Halifax stick came out of no where to stop it going in, top net!
Although Driffield had nearly all the possession in the first half when the whistle went, they had no goals on the team sheet so the pressure was still very much on them.
The break through came when Tuplin picked up the ball in midfield and saw a gap, she wellied the ball into the D where Langtoft lassie got a fabulous touch on the ball and the keeper had no chance, 1-0.
Both teams were getting tired as the weather was unusually warm and big gaps were appearing from both teams. Driffield had many short corners but Halifax defenders were putting their bodies on the line and blocking many shots. Halifax had a few breakaway chances but Kirsty Edmonds and Charlotte Smith were outstanding at the back plus Shanie Burton pulled off some fabulous saves. In the 70th min Driffield were awarded another penalty corner, Tuplin fired the ball into the back of the net for a well deserved victory, meaning that the ladies will be staying up in the Yorkshire 2nd Division for another season, exactly were they deserve to be!
Our girlie of the game went to Andriana Drewery she had a fantastic game, her interception, drive, work rate and pick of the ball was exceptional, well done Drew!
Our Donkey - where is your skort Collinge.
Big thank you to Deano at The Spread Eagle for our teas and Yorkwold who sponsor us.
