Promising Opening Matches

U16A team

3 games; 1 won, 1 drawn, 1 lost

The A team travelled to a very wet Huntington in York for the first U16 tournament of the season. Driffield start in Division 2 where they finished at the end of last season. A number of players had to play outside of their usual positions as their were more forwards available than defenders for this set of matches.

First match against Ben Rhydding. The Driffield girls usually make a slow start but this was not the case. Driffield battled hard against the opposition, having dominance of possession but they just could not find that elusive goal. Unfortunately Ben Rhydding did with an end result of Driffield 0 Ben Rhydding 1

Next match was against Harrogate. Driffield absolutely dominated this game and despite numerous penalty corners, Driffield were finding it impossible to find the back of the net. Eventually, under sustained pressure, Driffield were rewarded with a goal. Final result Driffield 1 Harrogate 0.

To the last match against York who were playing on their home pitch. Again Driffield applied plenty of pressure but could not get that goal. York made some decent attacks which were stopped by some strong defending by the Driffield girls but neither team could break the deadlock; final result Driffield 0 York 0 which cemented the teams position in Division 2 for the next set of games in October. Overall all players played to the best of their ability in difficult conditions. If points were awarded for possession and determination, the Driffield girls would have topped this division with ease.
