Storms to near tropical conditions when playing against Hull.

On a blindingly bright 19th March, Ladies 2’s took on Kingston Upon Hull 2s away in a brutal match. Distant crowds cheered and roared on in support, yet disappointingly for a certain Tigers match instead of us ladies. Nonetheless, we took on the opposition with force. From the start, we dealt quick tactical passes through the midfield of Tuplin, Burgess and Sellar barely giving Hull a chance to react. Then making use
of our divine defenders Dean, Bannister and Morgan dealt strong, direct passes to our wing backs. Percival and Edmond met these passes from the back with ease weaving around rival attackers expertly sending balls up the lines. Unfortunately, after a hiccup Hull stole the show just slotting the ball past Kat in a lucky goal. However, Driffield’s heads did not drop once, instead they pushed their way through the opposition making excellent use of their forwards Levitt, Lee and Blythe. Lovely linking up of the wingbacks, mids and wingers saw plenty of time spent in the attacking D. Unfortunately, despite Blythe’s hurtling reverse shots, Lee’s runs and Di’s set ups Driffield were unlucky not to score. Before Driffield knew it the half time whistle blew so out came Edmonds oranges and sweets to give Driffield a chance to re-energise and recuperate.

Heading back onto the pitch, with heads held high and sugar levels even higher, Driffield did not give up. Unsurprisingly, Hull were strong from the very blow of the whistle, challenging our diligent defenders and fab goalie who took on any swift player who dared enter the D. However, after relentless attacks after attack Hull managed to break through scoring a messy goal on the line, barely skimming Kats kicker. With no aim to give up in sight Driffield continued to push through with great link up from Bannister, Edmond, Burgess and Blythe down the pitch. This brought Driffield onto their final push of the game, as Blythe easily sliced the ball towards the goal filling everyone’s eyes with a glimpse of hope. Alas it wasn’t meant to be and it clinked the post refusing to go in. Eventually, after a ruthless match the full time whistle blew and Hull brought the 2-0 win home. Nonetheless, a lovely day out in the sun was enjoyed filled with smiles all round as the news broke that Granny Tuplin had added another one to her growing brood.
