Brilliant battle against Wakefield

On Saturday 12th February, Driffield 2s went head to head with Wakefield 3s knowing they had a tough game ahead against the top of the league. After the first encounter finished with a 7-1 defeat, the Driffield 2s went into the game knowing they had to keep calm and not panic.

As expected Wakefield started strong and attacked straight away but Driffield’s defence of Dean, Bannister and Percival kept strong and denied entry into the D. Driffield made a number of good counter attacks, playing some really good balls through the midfield of Edmonds, Sellars, Moore and Burgess through to forwards Blythe, Lee and Tuplin who then had some good attempts on goal and unfortunate not to take the lead.

The first half which finished 0-0, left Wakefield feeling the pressure to continue to try get a fast turn around, taking every free hit as fast as possible to try catch Driffield off guard. Going into the second half, Wakefield kept the pressure up, continuing to attack but after some good saves from Baz, they were again denied. Driffield 2s continued to give everything they had to get around the ball every time but unfortunately Wakefield got 2 quick goals back to back in the last 15 minutes. Driffield gave it everything they had to get it back but unfortunately ran out of time.

A strong performance from Driffield 2s even with the unfortunate result.
