The game started in the aftermath of storm Eunice (unfortunately there was no calm after the storm as the weather made it quite challenging at times!) but both teams came out strong which made for an even game throughout.
Possession was fairly even in the first half however Leeds managed to break through and score from a 1-2-1 pass around the keeper. Driffield came back out with determination which paid off as strong play around the back from Edmond, Bannister, Dean and Percival helped get the ball up the pitch to the forwards where Blythe managed to win a Penalty Corner. This was perfectly executed resulting in an equaliser scored by Vicki Bannister from a straight strike!
Both teams had more chances within the first half but Driffield came out on top at half time after beautiful play was maintained by the midfield of Burgess, Moore, Sellars, Tuplin and Burkinshaw who fed the ball through to the forwards where another Corner was won. This time a straight strike was deflected in by Katie Lee putting Driffield a goal ahead.
There were some very impressive saves made by Baz in the second half and cleared out wide to the mids by Morgan and quickly passed onto Riby who made some good runs into the attacking D. Despite this Leeds managed to also remain strong which lead to them winning a Penalty Corner and scoring from a deflection bringing the score to 2-2. Shortly after, the worsening weather and heavy snow made visibility poor and the pitch unplayable resulting in the match coming to a premature end. Teas were very much appreciated in helping everyone to thaw out- thanks Bob! An added mention goes to Fiona for braving the weather on her birthday!
