Saturdays game play lead to an unlucky draw against Kingston-upon-Hull ladies 1st team.
In the first half, play seemed to take a dark turn for the Driffield ladies 1, which had 5-6 short corners against them in just the first 10 minutes. They were all successfully shut down by our driven defenders; Eve Naylor, Rose Backhouse, Holly Snaith and Molly Coombs.
From then on play started to look up for Driffield, with our outstanding midfield consisting of, Vicky Scott, Kate Moore and Kiera Dinsdale-Young, who kept distributing the ball to the awaiting forwards of Hannah Horsley, Fiona Tuplin, Emma Speake and Emily Williamson.
Driffield worked hard on keeping the ball in the opposing half and letting the forwards aim for goals, however none came due to Hulls strong defence. Play started to become even nearing the end of the first half, until Driffield’s strong wall broke allowing Hulls attackers to storm forward, but once again they were kept at bay by Driffield own defence. A long corner was given to Hull and after some battling; resulted in Emma Speake receiving a green card, with one minute to go until the end of the competitive first half.
In the second half, Driffield remained strong with Henri Williams and Steph Robinson subbing on for defence. Play remained even until Driffield broke Hulls forward line allowing Hannah Horsley to attack and have a shot but saved on the line by Hulls defence. Minutes later, another shot was made by Hannah but yet again, saved on the line. Possession kept switching between the sides with a few close calls for Driffield but they were all saved cleanly and amazingly by goalie, Sibelle.
Driffield was given a short corner just as the final whistle blew but were unfortunately unsuccessful in converting the short corner into a goal. Resulting in the final score being 0-0.
Girlie of the game went to Sibelle Baz and Donkey going to Holly Snaith. Thanks to Woldsway Pigpro for the sponsorship.
