Driffield Ladies 1s started on Top Form for the new season with 2 out of 2 wins, this week they hosted Halifax 2s and were looking to continue their winning streak to a home crowd. Driffield started their game strong and immediately on the attack, the midfield of Ash Gate, Keira Dinsdale-Young and Steph Robinson kept the ball in possession and sent some power passes up to the youthful attacking line of Emily Williamson, Chloe Rhodes and Alice Walker. With some frustrating decisions from the Halifax umpire Driffield kept it together and pushed on and soon reaped the rewards from a bottom corner goal from Hannah Horsley. Driffield remained a brick wall in defence as Rose Backhouse and Moly Coombs kept all Halifax advances at bay, Eve Naylor and Holly Snaith proved a support for the team with some great ball work up the wings which allowed Driffield to hold the attacking form. Ashley Gate fired the ball against the backboard in one of many short corners to finish the first half strong being 2-0 up. Gemma Tuplin reassured the ladies at half time with a positive team talk ready for a rough second half. As anticipated Halifax came out fast and strong in the second half and scored their first within 5 minutes followed a few minutes later by a second, this gave Driffield a much needed wake up call. Luckily a fresh Vicky Scott stepped onto the pitch in midfield and gave Driffield the boost that was needed, a blindingly fast skilful run from the defensive D all the way down the left side line, scooting past at least 9 of the opposition to roof it into the top right hand corner from a reverse stick hit! 3-2 up and the crowd went wild! Vicky’s Goal Of The Year gave Hannah Horsley the inspiration to shoot one more home past the Halifax defence ending the game 4-2.
Big thanks to Debbie Williamson stepping up to Technical Delegate, Spread Eagle for teas and Yorkwold PigPro for their sponsorship.
