Next Round Beckons

Driffield under 16 girls played Halifax in the 2nd round of the National cup, tier 2.
From push back a very confident Halifax side were taken aback by Driffield’s immediate strength in formation and pressure. Driffield consistently attacked forward down the pitch with many promising long balls distributed by the midfield of Evie Taggart, Lilli Borman and Keira Dinsdale-Young. After a strong 10mins Driffield gained a short corner which rebounded out to Eve Naylor who struck it perfectly on her reverse straight to the backboard. Not long after Driffield were on the attack again when Keira Dinsdale-Young hit the ball on reverse into the D which took a high leap off a Halifax stick which Emma Rumgay confidently took in the air and placed in the Halifax goal. Driffield were 2-0 up going into the second half.

Coach Fiona Tuplin led the team talk which consisted of ‘carry on what you’re doing and stay strong and keep your shape’. So that’s what Driffield did, with a solid defence of Mimi Longden, Holly Snaith, Katie Percival and Eve Naylor the girls felt safe to attack with confidence as any ball sent by Halifax was intercepted by Eve Naylor in the middle. The forward line of Emma Mackay, Maya Brown and Emily Williamson made countless attempts and dangerous runs towards the Halifax goal. Emily Williamson then gained a short corner in the D, after a team talk Holly Snaith and Eve Naylor performed the ‘in and out’ and Naylor sent the ball into the goal once again.
Final score 3-0. Every player played their hearts out & represented Driffield with pride, Well Done to all.
