Excellent Improvement

As the under 16s girls arrived at Slazengers Hockey Club in Wakefield, they arrived with only having 10 players, so borrowing a forward from another team, Driffield set up for their first match against Huddersfield
With Eve keeping the defence strong, and Katie and Louise making important tackles they managed to stop any shots on goal. As Mimi cleared the ball out of our D the midfielders did an excellent job of getting the ball up to our borrowed centre forward Becky, who then banged the ball into the back of the net, making it 1-0. As the whistle blew Driffield had taken the win.

With having one match off, Driffield came back on to the pitch ready for our next match against Ben Rhydding, Driffield battled hard, but Ben Rhydding caught our defence off guard and managed to put themselves in the lead. Driffield then stepped up their game, as Holly ran from the half way line using her skills getting passed players, then managed to have a shot on goal but their keeper saved it. Izzie kept Driffield in the game making some very important saves. As Keira drived up the pitch getting passed players, she got into the D and passed the Ball to Emily , who then did a quick spin and pushed the ball into the back of the net. Making the final score 1-1

As Driffield got ready for there final match against Leeds, Pip gave the girls some wise words and got them ready and raring to play their final match. Marie made some good runs in the middle creating space for the ball to then be passed into. Eve did some great disguise passes out wide, that broke up Leeds press meaning Jess could make some speedy runs down the wing, putting their defence under pressure. As the ball got passed at great speed out wide Emily then got the ball and made a run down the wing getting passed players into the D who then took a shot, and pushed it passed the goal keeper once again to make the score 1-0. Driffield took another win.
Following these great results the girls are now moving up to division 2. The girls battled hard all day and deserved the promotion. Well played to all involved including Pip for his continuous encouragement.

The U16 girls B team went to Selby to play three games of 25 minutes one way, all part of the Yorkshire Junior League.
There 1st game was against Selby, the girls did very well with Louisa Chacksfield doing some fantastic saves and Lilli Borman working hard in the middle distributing the ball well out to the wings and sending some very good balls direct up to the forwards. One ball was picked up by newbie Emily Clarke who put the ball away very nicely. Final score 1-1.
The second game was against Airedale, again the girls did very well, Jenny Welburn and Emma Smith both doing very well at the back and Bea Neal and Katie Lee did well as the wing backs intercepting a lot of balls. Ella Dean came into her own and started moving the ball left to right a lot more. Holly Singleton was looking a lot more confident making some good runs down the right. Once again Lilli Borman sent some great balls into the D resulting in a well earned 2-1 win, making it 4 points in the bag.
The last game of the morning was against Selby again, but this time a mixed team of U14/16's and this proved the hardest match of the day for the girls, going down 3-0 but all in all a good learning curve. Well done to all, lots to work on, but all positive.
Thanks to the parents for bringing them along.
