Under 16 Girls A Team

Driffield Hockey U16A team travelled to Thirsk to play in their 3 game tournament.

First game against Thirsk; the home side. The Driffield girls started well, moving the ball around the pitch well. The team played with alot of determination
but Thirsk proved worthy opponents. The defence of Nellie Davison and Mimi Longden proved solid with Eve Naylor providing invaluable support and distribution
from the Thirsk attacks. The Driffield Goalkeeper, Louisa Chacksfield, having to make some great saves to keep Thirsk off the score sheet.
Driffield created more chances than their opponents but could not manage to convert this pressure into goals. They managed to attack and
defend well and although frustrated with the 0-0 final score, could be proud of their first game.

The girls then had the unenviable task of waiting an hour in the pouring rain before their next match which was against Wakefield. The Driffield team
started with a great attack which was continued throughout the game. With some skillful display from the midfielders of Keira Dinsdale-Young, Marie Kraus,
Katie Percival and Holly Snaith, working the ball around their opponents and pushing the ball through to the forward line of Abigail Clark, Grace Lines and
Emily Williamson. Driffield quickly broke the deadlock to be in the lead 1-0. With some well worked short corners, the girls managed to increase their lead
which was followed by a superb solo effort from Emily Williamson breaking up the right wing, moving into the D and a solid hit saw the ball into the back
of the goal. Other goal scorers were Abigail Clark and Keira Dinsdale-Young with the final result of 4-0 well deserved.

Driffield were immediately back on the pitch against Rotherham. Driffield continued with the unrelenting pressure they had shown in the match against
Wakefield and were quickly rewarded with a goal. Driffield dominated the game, continuing to work well across the full pitch and showing some great awareness
and passing using the whole team. When Rotherham did manage to mount an attack, they were quickly closed down by the Driffield defence. Any short corners
against were defended aggressively and successfully. Attacking short corners were well planned, implemented and proved successful (one not awarded as the
umpire had not realised the ball had crossed the line) and resulted in a final score of 3-0.
Goal scorers in this match were Abigail Clark, Keira Dinsdale-Young and Emily Williamson.

All in all an excellent display of teamwork, great skills and camarderie of which the Driffield girls should be very proud. Thanks must go to Pip
Snaith for his never ending 'encouragement' from the touchline and to Mieke Davison for umpiring.
