Driffield 0 Ben Rhydding 4
Driffield hit again
MATCH REPORT: 26th JANURARY
A windy Saturday for Driffield Ladies 3s as they travelled to Ben Rhydding Sports Club- playing against their Ladies 4th team. Having already won against Ben Rhydding this season, Driffield knew they were going to have to fight hard to get the same result.
Driffield started with push back setting the pace of the game. Driffield’s forwards: Wendy Gate and Julie Pease pressed hard in the oppositions defensive D in hope to to try find a goal. However Ben Rhydding made quick passes down the left hand side of the pitch but Lucy Attree and Megs Sellars (C) were quick to intercept and gain possession. At the bottom of the diamond, Holly Snaith, distributed the ball out wide, not allowing Ben Rhydding’s attackers to make a break.
In the last 15 of the first half Ben Rhydding’s attackers found a break and successfully found the back board after a player was unmarked. After that Driffield’s defenders: Kat Young and Kim Dewhirst stood their ground at the back, not allowing Ben Rhydding to get another opportunity before the half time whistle.
After a quick team chat and into the second half Driffield were determined to bring the game back. Wing backs: Lucy Welburn and Heather Measom made endless tackles against Ben Rhydding throughout the game. This helped Driffield keep the possession so the forwards could drive the wing. This lead Katie Percival to pass wide to Emily Williamson, on the wing, to cross the ball. Unfortunately Driffield were unable to equalise the game.
During the end-to-end game Driffield held their ground when it came to defending the oppositions many short corners. 3 out of 9 of Ben Rhydding’s short corners were successful as the ball slipped under Debs Nelson’s feet despite her great saves previously in the game. The final whistle blew, resulting in a 4-0 lost for an unhappy Driffield side.
Next Saturday Driffield Ladies 3s are on home turf against Halifax 3s and are hoping to bag themselves some points on the table. Thankyou to Yorkwold Pigpro for their continued sponsorship.
