Driffield 0- Sheffield 3
MATCH REPORT: 12th JANUARY
Driffield Ladies 3s played their first game back from the Christmas break against Sheffield Hallam 3s. Everyone knew it was going to be a tough game after already playing them once this season.
Driffield had first push back and started strongly making quick passes in the midfield between Rachel Kendall and Katie Percival. However Sheffield pressed hard putting Driffield under pressure which lead them to score a goal.
As the game progressed on Holly Snaith hit the ball up the pitch into Sheffield’s D, in hope for Layla McGreal to take a strike but Sheffield stood strong at the back.
Captaining the Driffield side, Meg Sellars intercepted Sheffield’s pass from a free hit and transferred the ball to Kim Dewhirst, then Heather Meason on the right. This gave Emily Williamson the opportunity to drive the baseline in hope for Julie Pease to strike and equalise the game. Despite the huge efforts made all shots were saved. The half time whilst blew and Sheffield Hallam 3s were 2-0 up.
Switching ends and a quick team chat from Debs Robinson, Driffield were back on the pitch ready for the second half with high spirits.
The second half was well under way with everyone running the length of the pitch countless times. Sheffield maintained their press but defenders; Lucy Welburn and Kat Young made sure Sheffield couldn’t get a shot off at Debs Nelson in goal. Tensions on the pitch were running high as Lucy Attree won a short corner for Driffield. Julie Pease took a strike but unfortunately it was saved and Sheffield quickly attacked making a break in Driffield. Sheffield were now 3-0 up. In the last 5 minutes, Sheffield gained a head injury and the captains of each side and umpires came to a decision to finish the game there.
Although it was a loss for Driffield Ladies, they all battled hard showing good team work and a progression in skills. They hope for a more positive result next Saturday against Bingley Bees 1s.
