First of December draw
MATCH REPORT: 1st DECEMBER
Saturday 1st December, Driffield Ladies 3s hosted against Louth 1s. On the soggy morning Driffield were fielding a strong squad as they were determined for a positive result.
This was shown in the first half as Driffield dominated the possession in Louth’s half, as Sarah Soanes and Rachel Kendall launched the ball out wide; for Emily Williamson and Wendy Gate to drive the baseline in search for an opening goal. However Louth were pressing hard- saving all Driffield’s shots at goal.
Whilst defenders Sharon Falkingham, Kim Dewhirst and Kat Young stood tight at the back stopping any of Louth’s players from grabbing any opportunity they had to get a goal- once they had found a break. Every player tightly man marked the opposition finishing the first half 0-0.
Half time was a short period for a talk of team tactics before starting the second half, dangerously attacking at Louth again. The tension on the pitch was running high for both teams as they were eagerly wanting a goal, however Louth were the first to find the back board.
Despite being 1 nil down Driffield knew they could bring it back as Captain- Meg Sellar and Heather Measom kept the width of the pitch as they hit balls down the line for the attack to run on to. Julie Pease was the one to find the ball, assisting it to Lucy Attree who striked it into the back of the net- equalising the game for Driffield.
With 10 minutes remaining on the clock the game descended into a physical war for the 3 points on the table as the midfield, Holly Snaith and Beth Dinsdale-Young ran the length of the pitch countless times, winning many free hits for Driffield to take advantage of. With an end to end game and some fantastic saves from Riona Welburn in goal; the game resulted in a 1-1 draw.
Driffield travel to Wakefield Sports Club as they take on Wakefield 4s in hope to bring back a win before the Christmas break. Thank you to Bob at the Spread Eagle for his delicious post-match refreshments, Yorkwild pigpro for their sponsorship and to our match umpires.
