Driffield narrowly miss out against Scarborough
MATCH REPORT: 24th NOVEMBER
On Saturday, Driffield Ladies 3s played on home turf against top of the table, Scarborough 1s. Despite the mixed fortunes Driffield have had this season, they brought the positives from last week and gave the game their all.
Driffield had won first push back and were keen to get stuck in as Rachel Kendall and Sarah Soanes held the possession of the ball, making some excellent passes to Emily Williamson who ran the wing.
Within minutes of attacking Wendy Gate cracked the ball up to Julie Pease in the D who managed to take on Scarborough’s goal keeper, scoring the opening goal of the game.
However Scarborough were determined to make a come back as they quickly found a break in Driffield which lead to a goal- equalising the game.
With an end to end game and everyone running the length of the pitch numerous of times in hope to find a leading goal. Scarborough were given a free hit in Driffield’s half giving them the advantage to grasp a goal which trickled over the line.
In the second half, Kat Young and Kim Dewhirst, stood strong at the back not allowing Scarborough to get any shots off at Riona Welburn (GK). Sharon Falkingham cleared the ball out wide to captain- Meg Sellars who drove the wings with Heather Meason in search for a break, giving the attack many chances to score.
Holly Snaith blocked Scarborough from attacking down the middle of the pitch whilst striking the ball up to Lucy Attree; to run onto, who found a foot in the D and was rewarded with a short corner. Many chances were made for Driffield to try equalise the game. Despite everyone putting maximal effort in, the game resulted in a 2-1 loss.
Driffield Ladies 3s take on Louth 1s at 11am next week in search for some points on the table. Thank you to Bob at the Spread Eagle for his delicious post-match refreshments and to Yorkwold pig pro for their sponsorship.
