Driffield vs university of Leeds
Last Saturday Driffield Ladies 3s drove to Weetwood where the played against University of Leeds 4s. With just one point separating the two teams on the table, it should’ve been a very fair match.
During the first half, the possession on the ball was very equal between both teams as they quickly passed it around the midfield: Lauren Johnstone and Captain- Meg Sellars working as a perfect duo stopped Leeds from attacking down the middle.
Laura Jackson and Julie Pease endlessly marked Leeds as well as passing the ball wide to Emily Williamson on the wing, who drove the baseline in hope for a goal. However a goal was later found as wing back, Heather Meason hit the ball with all her efforts to the left post where Wendy Gate was patiently waiting and tapped it into the net.
After leading 1-0, Leeds fought back quickly taking the lead of 2-1 before half time making breaks through Driffield’s defence.
Debs Nelson (GK) made some brilliant saves in order to keep Driffield in the game but Leeds were not giving up. Sitting at the bottom of the diamond, Holly Snaith, tackled many players gaining possession for Driffield to equalise the game but it just wasn’t enough as all shots were saved.
Defenders; Kat Young, Kim Dewhirst and Louise Foster stood solid in the D not giving away any short corners and swiftly transferred the ball around the back in aid to play the ball up the wings. Despite everyones team efforts Leeds still managed to find the back of the net and took the win.
Next week Driffield are more determined than ever for the points they deserve on the table as they’re on home turf at 11am as they play Lindum 3s.
