Driffield battle hard at Halifax
Saturday 27th October, Driffield Ladies 3s travelled across Leeds to play against Halifax- who are currently sat at the top of the table. Driffield were aware it was going to be physically demanding but everyone put their everything into the game.
Halifax had won first push back and quickly attacked through defenders: Kat Young and Sharon Falkingham, winning a short corner within minutes of the first whistle. Despite Holly Snaith and Heather Meason sprinting from the goal line, Halifax managed to find the back of the net. Huge efforts were made from attackers: Wendy Gate, Rachel Kendall and Lucy Attree keeping the width of the pitch, driving down the wings at every opportunity they had. This gave Julie Pease many chances to try grasp a goal; unfortunately Driffield had no luck. It was 4-0.
At half time Driffield wrapped up warm from the 4 degree cold winds and spoke with coach, Debs Robinson, who discussed Thursday nights training tactics and told the team to apply them in the game if they wanted a chance at a come back.
Driffield held their heads high, eager to start the second half with having second push back. Left wing back, Lucy Welburn, stopped Halifax from attacking various times helping Driffield gain more possession on the ball. Sarah Soanes ran the length of the pitch numerous times in desperate need to find a goal, which was well deserved, as she found the bottom right corner from a deflection. Every player ran their socks off on Saturday whilst Debs Nelson (GK) made some brilliant saves throughout the game however it just wasn’t enough this week, resulting in a 7-1 loss.
Driffield Ladies 3s are away again next week as they play University of Leeds at 12pm in hope for a more successful game.
