Driffield L2's 0 - 4 Leeds Adel L2's

This Sunday saw Driffield Ladies Second Team at home to Adel Second Team in a difficult Cup draw. Adel started hard and with confidence, passing the ball quickly across the midfield and up the wings, launching multiple attacks on the Driffield defence. Driffield held well and did have chances to score with Kathryn Bumby, Chloe Rhodes and Rachel Kendall making driving runs into the attacking D. Driffield's keeper Becks Lalor made multiple saves within this period to keep the ball out of the net. That being said, the score at half time was 3-0 to the away team.

In the second half Driffield managed to regain a bit of control, with Bryony Sykes, Nicola Guthrie and Charlotte Smith tackling well in midfield and blocking a lot of the Adel play. Driffield absorbed multiple Adel attacks effectively with Katie Percival, Ellen Calder and Helen Holdsworth maintaining control at the back and getting the ball up the field from Driffield hit outs. Mags Purnell making crucial tackles to prevent an Adel break, whilst Emily Williamson and Annabel Coleman continued to keep the Adel defence on their toes with their speed of attack. The team showed grit and determination, in what was a physical game, but unfortunately Driffield where unable to convert any of their chances into a goal. There where no further Adel conversions in the second half until the 69th minute when Adel scored an unlucky deflection past the Driffield keeper from a defensive short corner, seconds before the final whistle.

This was a disappointing result, with Driffield now out of the cup competition, although the home team showed a fighting spirit in which they should be proud of.

A big thankyou to Yorkwold PigPro for their sponsorship and the Spread Eagle for the post match teas.

Girlie of the game went to Helen Holdsworth for her hard tackles and work in defence. Well played Helen!
