Driffield ladies 1s were hoping to maintain their top spot in the premier division this week. The match versus Leeds Adel 2s got off to a good start as Driffield looked dangerous in Adel’s half, with our forwards winning numerous corners. This pressure resulted in a well earned penalty flick, which Fiona Tuplin scored in the bottom left hand corner.
Driffield continued to apply pressure, with great link up play from Keira Dinsdale-Young, Steph Robinson and Hannah Horsley in the midfield, distributing the ball to Vicky Scott and Fiona Tuplin on the wings. This resulted in more short corners, in which the ball fell to Ash Gate who struck the ball sweetly, putting in the back of the net.
Trailing by 2-0, Leeds started the second half strongly. Thanks to their speed on the ball and accurate passing they frustratingly scored 2 goals within quick succession. 2 all and it was all to play for. Once the game opened up it was an end to end contest. Excellent defending from Henri Williams, Lucinda Collinge, Rose Backhouse and sweeper Molly Coombs denied Adel chances of scoring, alongside some confident saves from Captain Lucy Wilson. At the other end Kay Bloomfield, back from injury, put in some great runs, however as the whistle blew for full time the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Driffield remain top of the league after 7 matches unbeaten.
Girly of the game went to Steph Robinson and donkey to Eve Naylor.
Also thanks to our new sponsor ‘YorkWold Pig Pro’ for our great new playing shirts and the Spread Eagle for excellent teas.
