Driffield travelled across the Humber on Saturday to play top of the table Brigg. It was always going to be a tough match and right from the starting whistle both teams applied pressure to create an end to end match. It was Driffield who scored first after a great team effort moving the ball swiftly right from the other end of the pitch resulting in a perfect cross into the D from Ashley Gate for Hannah Langley to slot into the net. The driffield ladies settled into their game and all the recent short corner training paid off when a strong injection in from Horsley struck strongly in from Tuplin and tipped over the line by Williams made the score 2 nil going into half time.
A determined and upbeat half time talk from captain Wilson saw Driffield come out strongly in the second half. Brigg also came out hungry for a goal and an unfortunate short corner put Brigg on the score sheet. Driffield did not give up and after some great hockey, scored their third goal, again, thanks to a great whole team effort. Brigg were not giving up and with ten minutes left pulled a goal back with a strong hit on goal. The final minutes of the game were tense as Brigg desperately searched for a draw. Driffield held on valiantly and finally walked away with a very well deserved win putting them to the top of the table.
Next week they face two tough matches against Leeds teams both at the top end of the table.
Girlie of the game went to Gemma Tuplin who always plays well but really helped the team maintain their structure and shape distributing the ball elegantly around the pitch.
