Ladies 1's v Ben Rhydding 3's - Match Report - 20th October 2018
The Driffield ladies 1st team set up feeling positive after last weekends win however after a long drive and little time for a good warm up the Driffield team were unsettled and were victim to an unfortunate early goal from Ben Rydding. This early goal was quickly equalised by Hannah Horsley who skilfully defeated several players to reach a one on one with the Ben Rydding keeper where she carefully planted the ball in the back of the net.
The away team were now on a level playing field once again and despite numerous short corners awarded against them the Driffield defence remained composed with sweeper Molly Coombs and defenders Rose Backhouse and Lucinda Collinge clearing the ball confidently to Vicky Scott and Eve Naylor who made constant progress up the wings, supported by Gemma Tuplin and Steph Robinson.
Henri Williams sent some fantastic balls up the pitch finding Ash Gate and Jenny Dawson who put relentless pressure on the Ben Rydding defence, surely a goal was in site. Keira Dinsdale-Young took a strike on goal but it was defended by the Ben Rydding keeper however Hannah Horsley was quick to react on the rebound and lifted the ball over the keeper taking the away team to 2-1.
With more composure and confidence from the second goal Driffield looked dangerous keeping possession and working better as a unit. The final whistle blew as another short corner was awarded against Driffield but this was confidently cleared by goal keeper Lucy Wilson. Another win for the Driffield ladies!
