Driffield M1s 6 vs Richmond M1s 3
Driffield came into this game against Richmond full of confidence having soundly beaten Leeds Adel in their previous game. However, they were also well aware that Richmond are not an easy team to take points off and they would need to be on the top of their game, especially with star defender Jackson being unavailable this week.
Unfortunately Driffield did not begin the game brightly and lacked some of the flow and shape they maintained against Adel. The result was that within 15 minutes the Woldsmen found themselves 2-0 down having conceded 2 sloppy goals from open play. To Driffield’s credit though they did not panic which shows the level of confidence within the team and by half time they had brought the scores level with goals for Levitt and Cherry. The pressure Driffield was placing on Richmond was clearly evident as the visitors had 3 players sin binned in quick succession just before half time for back chat to the umpire.
In the second half Driffield were much more dominant with Cherry rolling back the years to score a terrific individual goal and the ever dangerous Levitt adding three more to his name. Levitt now finds himself as the top goal scorer in the league with 23 goals to his name so far this season. Both strikers will certainly be grateful for the quality of the supply from their midfielders and defenders who were making life very difficult for the Richmond team, by moving the ball fast and accurately across all areas of the pitch.
Richmond did manage to sneak another goal past Falkingham in goal but the game was to end 6-3 in Driffield’s favour and the Woldsmen will be certain to take this momentum into their double header next week up at Gateshead and Morpeth. The result takes Driffield into the top half of the North 2 East table and shows the real potential that this quality squad has as it continues to develop.
Thanks to shirt sponsor Yorkwold Pigpro and also to the hospitality of the Spread Eagle and to the support of the home crowd.
