This was the first game for Driffield M1s since the Christmas break having had last weeks game against Morpeth postponed due to snow. So the woldsmen were slightly concerned about being a bit rusty having not played for 7 weeks along with the fact Leeds Adel thrashed them 8-2 at Adel earlier in the season.
The plan was not to concede early but this fell apart after 2 minutes when Miller was caught in possession in the middle of the park allowing the Adel forwards to break and pass the ball round falkingham in goal to take the lead. A very poor start for the woldsmen but it wasnt long before they equalised after Gate fired a dangerous ball across the Adel D which Dewhirst connected with to put the ball into the roof of the net.
After taking the score level at 1-1 Driffield never looked back and played Adel off the park with some of the best hockey they'd played all season. Adel simply could not cope with it and Driffield started scoring goals for fun with hatricks for Martindale and Levitt and goals for Gate and Lee from the p spot.
Adel always posed a threat throughout the game but the solid Driffield defence and falkingham in goal restricted them to scoring just 3 goals. The game ended 9-3 to Driffield which is one of the greatest results in recent times for the woldsmen and provided a great spectacle for the home supporters.
Driffield will be hoping to bottle some of the magic they displayed and take it to in form Brigg next week.
Thanks as ever to shirt sponsors Yorkwold Pigpro and the Spread Eagle for the hospitality.
