Unfortunate Result in the "Top of the Table" Clash

Remembrance Day saw a top of the league clash with first place Driffield mens 1’s hosting second City of York 2’s, the woldsmen looking to carry on from their win against Leeds last week.

A tentative start to the match saw some wayward passes coming from both teams as they found their way into the game. Around the fifteen minute mark York received a short corner, successfully converting the corner York went 1-0 up.This lead was short lived, however, with Driffield passing the ball around and building attacks. After multiple attempts a short corner resulted in an open side strike from Ed Cherry showing his goal scoring experience to tie the game. However, Cherry would not be in the game much longer breaking his thumb which resulted in a trip to A&E and a cast. York bounced back from the equalising goal with multiple attacks, one attempt saw an unfortunate kick into the goal from Jack Hardaman doing his best Shearer impersonation. Towards the end of the half an interception from the York midfielder resulted in a third goal, with the score going into half time 3-1.

The second half would see Driffield control the game having the majority of possession and many attacks at goal. However, the attempts were not to be with some clinical saves from the York keeper and some unfortunate misses.

The score remained 3-1 at the full time whistle but it was a game which Driffield can learn from for the rest of the season.

Next week Driffield travel away to Harrogate hoping to get back to their winning ways.
