Sunday saw a rearranged game from before Christmas with the woldsmen travelling to York to play city of York 3’s. Looking to get back to winning ways after a loss the day prior Driffield started with intent and applied the pressure from the first whistle. It was not long before J.Lucas won a short corner which was converted by S.Falkingham with another drag flick. Not letting off the pressure Driffield were rewarded with another short corner, a loose ball rebounded to the stick of G.Martindale who flicked over the keeper, doubling the goal advantage for Driffield. The woldsmen were clearly not content with a 2-0 lead, with W.Foster making it 3-0 with a reverse strike.
Entering half time 3-0 up, spirits were high and the woldsmen were eager to carry on with their scoring ways. This was not to be however as York scored a quick goal soon after the restart. Momentum would only briefly be with York as W.Foster saw himself get on the scoresheet again, reclaiming control of the game for Driffield. C.Braidwood Smith would make it 5-1 shortly after solidifying Driffield stance on the match. York would score one more goal, but it was too little too late, this was furthered by a goal from W.Smith after a well threaded pass from F.Needham.
The 6-2 win would see Driffield reclaim first position in the league standings which they will hope to maintain next week with a home match vs Halifax 1’s. Thank you to everyone who travelled to support this weekend.
