DRIFFIELD LADIES 1st v SHEFFIELD HALLUM 2nd's
Driffield Ladies travelled to Sheffield on Saturday to play their 2nd game of the 2018/19 season in the Yorkshire Premier League. After the disappointment of losing to Halifax two weeks previously the captain Lucy Wilson was looking for focus from her team.
The story went as a tale of two halves.
In the first half the game flowed well for Driffield with mid fielders Molly Combs, Steph Robinson, Gemma Tuplin, Rose Backhouse, Hannah Horsley creating a lot of space and the ball was put into space high up the pitch for the forwards Ash Gate and Fiona Tuplin to run onto which resulted in giving Driffield shots on goal plus the advantage of getting many short corners but unfortunately these were not capitalised on. With Lucy Wilson, Henri Williams, Lucinda Collinge, Eve Naylor, Vicky Scott and Kay Bloomfield pushing up from the back as a unit, a fantastic string of passes starting from the half way line and resulted in Girlie of the Game Fiona Tuplin putting the ball in the back of the net.
Everything looked good for Driffield to take 3 points away with them.
Unfortunately things seemed to change in the second half with Driffield becoming much more defensive, losing the space they found in the first half and allowing Sheffield into the game. Within 5 minutes Sheffield had a break and with some confusion in the D it resulted in them getting a goal. Final score 1-1 which felt a bit like a loss but 1 point on the board and lots more games to go to get things sorted is all positive.
